Why Mercury and Osiris?

Mercury, the messenger of the gods, rules communication, cleverness, and speed. He reminds us that our words shape our reality — and that reinvention can begin with just one sentence. (Mercury is also the appropriate name I gave my wild, playful, black, cuddly, fluffy, fearless, feral cat.)

Osiris, god of rebirth and renewal, shows us that even after endings, new life grows. That identity is not fixed — it is a garden we are always tending. (Osiris is another appropriate name I gave my now older, wiser, more grand and stoic, protective gold-flecked black tabby cat.)

The Mess I Created that is Becoming a Beautiful Garden

Some transformations begin with a single seed.

Mine began with raised flower beds and the stubborn, glorious blooming of hibiscus.

I had planted them with hopeful hands and then watched and watered — really watched — as they grew. There is something quietly revolutionary about tending a garden. About choosing, every single day, to nurture something into its fullest expression. The hibiscus didn't bloom on my timeline. They bloomed on theirs. And when they did, they were breathtaking.

That garden is ever evolving. It shifted something in my creative vision and made me see my niche with new eyes. If a flower can reinvent itself season after season, so can a brand. So can a person.

The new designs on Mercury Loves Osiris grew from that soil.

Learning to Create (Even When You're Tired)

Around the same time the hibiscus were blooming, I made a decision I had been putting off for far too long: I was finally going to learn Procreate, Adobe Illustrator and some other graphic programs I have.

I won't pretend it was easy or fun. Learning something new can be rough sometimes when you are already worn out by life. But there is a particular kind of magic that happens when you commit to your butt down and focusing on one thing at a time — when you pick up the digital pen and let yourself be imperfect and curious and just give it a go.

Every design you see in this shop is a piece of the watering of my Shopify garden. Consistent care. Mystical imagery, empowering words, and hibiscus-inspired art — all created by hand, one layer at a time. When you wear or use something from Mercury Loves Osiris, you are carrying a piece of that creative becoming with you.

Who is Behind the Brand?

Hi, I'm Laura Cavanaugh, a reluctant cat-lady who believes reinvention is not only possible but sometimes is the only thing left to do. I started Mercury Loves Osiris as a way to fuse mystical imagery, empowering language, and a deep respect of self-expression into wearable reminders of the power we all hold to evolve, despite what the naysayers say.

This shop is for anyone who has ever looked up at the night sky and thought: "There is more to me than this version."
